J. Carter Marsden, President of the West Valley Symphony from 2022-2026, passed away in July after a short illness, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, graciousness, and servant leadership. Carter was a man of unwavering character whose greatest accomplishments were measured not in titles earned, but in lives touched. Born in Ames, Iowa, Carter proudly served his country in the United States Army before beginning a distinguished career in the insurance industry that spanned more than fifty years. He was known for his wisdom, his fairness, and his sincere care for the people around him. That influence reached far beyond the workplace, where his leadership and commitment to excellence inspired colleagues who became lifelong friends. Above all, Carter was devoted to his family. He lived each day with gratitude, humility, and purpose. Carter embraced life wholeheartedly. He enjoyed horse racing, golf, and travel, and he even completed the New York City Marathon. Carter's life reminds us that true success is found in how we treat people. His kindness, wisdom, and example will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Kay; his children, Todd and Tracy; his cherished grandchildren, Evan and Emma; his siblings, David, Phillip, and Jane; and many extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his wives, Sandra and Nancy.
